The 2026 CANARI Annual Meeting

The CANARI community came together at the University of Reading from 8-10 July 2026 for the project’s 5th Annual Meeting. Hosted by our colleagues at the National Centre for Earth Observation, the meeting brought together researchers from across the consortium to reflect on progress and shape the programme’s final year. Over the three days, attendees shared the latest findings on Arctic change, North Atlantic climate variability, extreme weather, hydrological impacts and analysis of the CANARI community simulations through a series of science presentations, posters and interactive discussions.

A particular focus of the meeting was CANARI’s long-term legacy. Breakout sessions explored future research opportunities, user impacts, policy relevance and pathways for sustaining the project’s scientific advances beyond its completion. Participants also discussed emerging priorities including rapid Arctic sea ice loss, climate risk preparedness and the development of a CANARI synthesis publication.

The meeting highlighted the strength of collaboration across the CANARI partnership and reinforced the project’s role in advancing understanding of Arctic and North Atlantic climate change and its implications for the UK.
